about me
Your Destination Wedding Photographer in Italy
I’m Dan Sauer, an American wedding photographer based in Milan, Italy, where I live with my high school sweetheart and our son, Max. I specialize in intimate, multi-day destination weddings for English-speaking couples who want more than just beautiful photos. They want to remember what it truly felt like to be there, with their people, in a place they love.
My journey into photography began in photojournalism, shooting for a local newspaper while studying fine art. It taught me to pay attention, to capture life as it unfolds rather than interrupt it. When I discovered weddings, something clicked. These weren’t just events. They were emotional, meaningful, and fleeting. Photographing them felt like both an honor and a calling.
If this sounds like the kind of energy you want on your wedding day, reach out here and let’s start the conversation.
For over a decade, I’ve documented love stories across the globe, from the shores of Lake Como and the vineyards of Tuscany to the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast and the Icelandic wilderness. My approach blends cinematic composition with emotional honesty, rooted in a documentary mindset. I won’t make your day about the photos. I’ll let your day be itself, and make art from within it.
I don’t just photograph how it looked. I photograph how it felt. The joy. The tension. The quiet in-between. I work calmly and attentively, gently guiding when needed, but always observing first. My background in fine art and photojournalism shapes everything I do, from framing to light to emotion.
Curious if we’re the right fit? Inquire now and tell me what you’re dreaming up.
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to have my work featured in Rangefinder Magazine, Fearless Photographers, The Knot, Junebug Weddings, People, Huffington Post, and The New York Times, but the greatest reward is knowing the images I create will live on in homes, albums, and hearts for generations.
If you’re planning a destination wedding in Italy and value intimacy, connection, and timeless storytelling, I’d love to learn about your day. Let’s talk.
