In February I joined a group of photographers on a 9 day adventure around Cuba, where we explored the mysteries of Havana, met with artists in Cienfuegos, basked in the techni-colors of Trinidad and collaborated on a creative project. As I review the images I created there, I can't help but reflect deeply on the beauty of the country, it's people and their vibrant culture, and at the same time, on the difficulty of life. Change is on the horizon. The time capsule of classic cars and crumbling buildings is already giving way to posh restaurants and tourist busses. Understandably, people worry about such changes threatening the integrity of their culture and community, but there is a tangible excitement there too. It was such a privilege to visit Cuba during this transition and to experience and document it with my photographer friends.
Special thanks to Danny Klimetz for organizing the trip and forming the Collective Wander. Thank you for including me to offer my skills and perspective to the art collective. We had the awesome time exploring all around Cuba working with local artists and staying with local residents. Our styled shoot was a huge success, and our explorations were enlightening and so much fun!
It was difficult to narrow down my selection of images, but I am excited to share my highlights from the trip with all of you!
